Mini Heart Shaped Pies
Recently I bought little heart shaped cookie cutters that I thought were perfect for Valentine's Day. I decided I would make a Valentine's treat to give as a gift for the people I love. What better than mini heart shaped pies!? They're quick, easy, and delicious. You can get creative with the fillings that you use. They're the perfect sweet treat to make for Valentine's Day or any day of the year!
You will need:
1 pkg Pillsbury Pie Crust
(or make your own pie crust recipe)
Apple Pie Filling
Berry Pie Filling
3 tbsps Caster Sugar
1 Egg
1 tbsp Cold Water
Directions:
Let refrigerated crusts stand at room temperature for 15 minutes. Roll out the crusts onto a flat surface. Preheat oven to 425°F. Place cookie cutters on crust and carefully cut pie crust dough into heart shapes. Make sure you have two of each specific heart shaped to layer later. Line a baking sheet with tin foil and spray with non-stick cooking spray.
Once all the dough has been used, lay heart shaped on top of tin foil lined baking sheet. Spoon a small amount of pie filling onto heart shaped dough. Crack one egg into a bowl and add 2 tbsps of cold water to the egg. Whisk together until well mixed. Brush egg mixture onto edges of each heart shaped piece of dough. Put matching heart shaped piece of dough on top of each heart to create the top of the pie.
The egg brush will allow piece of dough to stick together to prevent pie filling from spilling out. Using a fork, press edges of each heart pie together to further prevent mixture from spilling out during cooking. Cut small "x" shapes into the top of each pie for ventilation during cooking. Brush each mini pie with egg mixture to create a shiny, flaky consistency on the top of each pie. Sprinkle top of each pie with a small amount of sugar so the crust will be sweet. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until the crust is glossy and golden brown. Serve and enjoy!
XO,
Hayley
